Not to mention the difficulty, which even on Normal is a rough learning curve for anyone not extra familiar with it, but once you achieve an understanding of the enemy's tactics, they become at least beatable, even if the odds are ALWAYS against you. As a result, the game which otherwise could have been absolutely stellar, no pun intended, has been turned into an unsupported fool-fest which never received the necessary love which would have made it amazing. This is not the only time something like this has happened and it is unlikely it will be the last time. These objectives can, and will, appear completely outside your range, and when they're not, the AI will 'miraculously' slap a 'slowdown bubble' directly in the path of your hard-burning ship, forcing it to go around and waste precious seconds adjusting course. Were it that we were given any clue as to where the next bombardment location would pop up, I could send units there in advance, but unfortunately you only get a minute and a half to get the ships there and it can take up to three minutes to cross the board. Cruisers are too slow, and Light Cruisers can make it about 25% of the time since the booster mechanic does not increase your speed that much, and is basically only good for dodging rams. Except the maps are massive, Imperial Navy ships are slow, and the only thing which can cross the void in time to reach said objectives is more often than not. During a mission where you have to support the counteroffensive of a planet versus a Chaos invasion, you are tasked with getting a ship, any ship except a Frigate class ship, to specific locations on the map before the time runs out. No, the issue is that the objectives are randomized even for dedicated campaign missions, and as a result you may run into something which I did. Play with the slowdown mechanic, move your units, adjust them, use torpedoes, and broadside to your heart's content. This is not because of weapons or shields or survivability. Archus, you probably just don't get the game/understand the mechanics/are an idiot." Not so, and the reason for this is very simple: Many objectives cannot be completed with the limitations of the ships that are purchasable during certain parts of the campaign. Now of course, you may be thinking 'Well, Mr. Which is the only reason to buy this game now that Armada 2 is out. You may be wondering what I mean by that initial sentence. I'm honestly surprised this was ever released, and I'm very glad that this was not something I bought at full price, having purchased it during one of Steam's many sales. Here we are with another 40K game that tries too hard to be difficult, and not hard enough to be a game.
